Water pump leaking after 25k. 2010 EX

2010 EX. I had the water pump & timing belt changed at the Honda dealer at 118k miles but 4 years and 25k miles later I have a coolant leak dripping from under the oil pan coming up from the timing belt cover, thinking it's leaking from the water pump weep hole.

How odd is it that a OEM Honda water pump would leak after 25k miles? Do they randomly fail? I'm thinking the dealership might be shady and didn't even replace it nor the timing belt. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Did you ask for it to be replaced? Were you billed for it?

Technically, the Honda service schedule only says to "inspect" the water pump, not necessarily replace it, so dealers often don't do it.

If this turns out to be the case you need to contact your state regulatory body that oversees repair shops, might be something like a bureau of automotive repair. Four years after the fact is difficult to say whether you can prove it.

There's usually a 'story' on the repair order where the technician's notes will be on there and if they're honest/good at what they do, they will write out what procedures they did on a work order. Do you see anywhere on there 'replaced water pump' or something like it?

Well, *#it does happen, and that is the reason why the weeping hole is there to warn you. 4 years are not a short time. If they cheated you then you might have a case. But how do you prove that?

Their warranty is usually 1 year or 12k miles whichever comes first so after that they owe you nothing. Also, that is just a warning sign, and your water pump is still working. It probably will last another 3 years, when your timing belt is up for replacement.

Remove the timing belt covers to verify if the coolant leak does actually come from the weep hole or not. If not, then it might just need those 10mm bolts to be fastened down a bit. Luck could be on your side as often as #! happens.

Would these people be the same ones who say do not change the ATF if it has not been changed in a while as it will take out the transmission?
